I guess my new habit is to take weekends off from blogging. Maybe I’ll change my PostaDay button to read “PostaWeekday” haha.
Anyway, another super short blog post to clue you all in on the things happening in this corner of my world:
1. My third reader, who was a bit of a wild card because he had not read anything as of a week ago and because he is super-smart and intimidating, has said of my first chapter: “Excellent. I have no revisions.” I’m happy-dancing to the brink of whirling like a dervish, friends.
2. I have just submitted the second draft of my third chapter to my other two readers (one of whom is my chair). I can feel the end coming upon me, and I’m ready for it. This week and next will be dedicated to writing the fourth chapter’s first draft and sending it out to my chair. In a month or so, I’ll hopefully be finished with most revisions and will be sending the final full dissertation to my committee for last-minute scans before my defense (hopefully at the beginning of August).
Time to sprint to that finish line!
What a busy summer for you, Amanda! I too am now taking the weekends off from blogging–a bit more sane schedule. Congrats on nearing the end, my friend!
Kathy
Thanks, Kathy! π I’m learning to free myself up from self-imposed deadlines that have little to no consequence when I miss them. It’s refreshing! (And helps me to focus! ;)) I hope you’re doing really well. I haven’t been able to sit down and read all my favorite blogs in a while. But I’m still sending positive thoughts your way! π
You make me feel lazy, and I’m STILL proud of you π
Lol, thanks Tori. If I can just make one person feel both proud and lazy, then I guess I’ve done my job. π Seriously, though, thanks for the support. And girl, you make me feel lazy, are you kidding? With that bundle of energy you have to keep up with (sometimes two of them) and a wedding to plan, I feel like all I do is sit around all day compared to you, lol. You’re a rock star! π
Haha, I think I have an idea who that third reader might be and with feedback like that, you should celebrate! So happy for you! You are doing such a fantastic job!
I bet you’ve hit the nail on the head, Tawnysha. And yeah…he’s pretty intimidating, so I’m thrilled that he was happy with that chapter. I haven’t heard back from him yet on Chapter Two…so, anything goes there. But I do know that my chair should take all the credit for helping me revise the first chapter to such a point that he had no further comments to make. It’s like she guessed what he’d say and preemptively prevented him from saying it. I’ve got a great committee–I hope you’re able to put together a strong committee too. Good ones make all the difference in the world.
Congrats! Point number one would have me celebrating for days. Of course, my director was scary (on a professional level). I know who your chair is, but I have to guess at your readers. Any hints for me? π
Also, how is your back doing?
Sure, I can give you a hint! Poor eyesight. π
My back is doing okay. The pain comes and goes, but it looks like it’s just a slightly inflamed disk and not a surgical issue. Hooray! π
Point number one is even more impressive! He was my director, and it’s amazing how much his opinion dictated my day–even my week sometimes. I’m very jealous of your “excellent.” π
That’s great about your back! I just had my last consult with my surgeon and he gave me something that I thought you might be interested in–it’s a topical gel that helps reduce swelling. I made the mistake of moving a box and had some issues the next day, and I used this stuff and felt great afterward. Have they mentioned this to you?
