About
I am a proud 30-something woman who has recently successfully finished her doctoral education, and, in fact, all formal education for the foreseeable future. Graduate school was a sluggish slog, but I had my husband, infant daughter, and our four animals to see me through (not to mention an incredible support network of friends and family).
I look forward to learning more about my identity now that I have shed my student skin and have assumed the mantel of scholarship. I’ll keep you posted.
Hi A.Hab., I was wondering whether your name here on this blog has anything to do with Melville’s Ahab from “Moby-Dick”? Or is that just a coincidence? Sorry if you’ve got the answer to this in one of your posts; I haven’t had time to read many of them. In any case, I’ve enjoyed the ones I’ve read so far!
Haha, good question! And no, I never actually explain it. “A.Hab.” is a nickname my friends gave me. My first name is Amanda, and in my PhD program we have quite a few Amandas. In order to tell each other apart, we gave each other nicknames (A.Mo., A.Mac., A.Hab.). The “Hab” portion is the first three letters of my married last name. But I rather like my nickname because it does have a great literary reference, even though that wasn’t the original intent. 🙂 Hope that helps to clarify! And thanks so much for reading!
